1. How quickly will I receive responses to my inquiry?

Usually within 24 hours and possibly in as little as 20 minutes. The speed of responses depends on several factors, including the timing of your submission. When you submit an inquiry, your message is immediately routed to appropropriate specialists based on the category you selected in the submission process. Specialists are encouraged to give an initial response as soon as possible if they feel they can be of assistance (for more information, see How The System Works). If you have not received any responses within 48 hours, it could be that there are no specialists who feel qualified to address your issue, or that the inquiry you submitted is considered frivolous. Specialists are under no obligation to respond to any inquiries.

2. What kind of services can I expect?

All inquiries are different and therefore require different types of services. iCounsel.org does not attempt to micromanage the specialists in the network nor to place restrictions on the types of services they can offer or render. Instead, we leave it to the individual specialist to suggest what he feels is the best solution based on his knowledge and experience. It is then up to you to accept or reject the specialist's offer. Typical services include phone consultations, email correspondence, reports and research. But there are surely others. Suffice it to say that everything is arranged between you and the specialist. It is therefore advised that you try to get as much detail as possible before accepting an offer or making any type of payment.

3. How much does membership cost?

Membership in iCounsel.org is $49.95 per year (but see our introductory special) and gives you unlimited access to submit inquiries to the specialist network. It also allows you to become a specialist yourself.

4. How much do services cost?

Again, we do not place any limit on the amount that a specialist can charge. It is up to the specialist to determine what he thinks his service is worth and it is up to you to agree or disagree. That said, it can be pointed out that services can run as low as $5 or $10 for a simple email response or pre-existing report to higher charges for research, phone consultations and other, more complex solutions.

5. Is this an alternative to therapy?

That all depends on your definition of "therapy". If you mean in the clinical sense, the answer is definitely "NO!" If you are currently under medication, you need to consult your doctor. If you're having any thoughts of suicide, you need to disconnect from the Internet right now and dial 911.

On the other hand, talking to someone about a problem can often be quite therapeutic. The voice of experience, together with the ear of compassion, may be just what you need to see yourself clear in your present situation. If nothing else, you can submit an inquiry to see what kind of responses you receive. You're under no obligation to act on these and you might very well discover a legitimate alternative to the high cost of traditional counseling sessions.

6. Why is certain information asked for twice during the sign up process?

We use a two-step sign up process. The first step is used to obtain your personal information (name, username, password, etc.). The second step is for the payment information. Because we offer three different payment methods, we have to have a way to match up the payment information with the personal information.

7. Is this going to put me on someone's mailing list? Is my information held in confidence? What is your privacy policy?

We will never sell, rent or give away the information that you supply to us during the sign up process. We do of course pass your inquiries on to appropriate counselors in the network and often this can include your personal information (at your option). We may also occasionally send you updates regarding our service or special offer information. Otherwise, your information is safely archived offline.

8. What is the difference between a "counselor" and a "specialist"?

There is no difference. We use the terms interchangeably throughout this website.

9. A friend of mine said the advice I received from my specialist was worthless. What can I do about this? Can I get a refund?

There is a temptation to suggest that if your friend is indeed qualified to make that assessment, perhaps you should have spoken with him/her in the first place. Be that as it may, we do understand this situation and have taken steps to address it.

On the one hand, we do not offer refunds of any kind for any service rendered. There is an element of risk involved in obtaining any consultation/advice, and it behooves an individual to exercise caution when acting upon same. Honest opinions can vary with regard to the same topic, and it is beyond the scope of iCounsel.org to micromanage every response to every inquiry.

However, if you feel that the service you received is sub-standard, we'd like to hear about it. By the same token, we want to hear your praises as well. In this manner, we can form a general opinion of our counselors' abilities. If consistently bad advice is being provided by the same specialist, we reserve the right to remove that counselor from that list.

10. Is my sign up information transmitted securely?

Yes. During the signup process, your personal information is transmitted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. The payment information is transmitted either by the same method (if the TC Concepts secure online payment option is selected) or via the security measures used by the third-party organizations that process some of our payments (PayPal and ClickBank). No information is stored on our machines or theirs.
